Job Overview

The Textile Technologist is responsible for managing a programme of testing in our in-house laboratories, for new fabrics and existing products. Test data is then reported to relevant stakeholders in the business, in order to allow informed purchasing decisions to be taken. Ultimately, the Textile Technologist helps to ensure that our products meet or exceed customers’ performance expectations; enhancing the overall reputation of the business.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 
  • Verifying materials and products meet performance expectations
  • Preparation, testing, and reporting on all types of fabric and garment testing
  • Liaising with Buyers and Suppliers on results
  • Managing fabric colour assessments, and the colour library
  • Reporting results to Buyers and Suppliers
  • Maintaining and updating laboratory Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monthly and ad-hoc reporting on test results
  • Implementing new reporting procedures and test methods as required
  • Managing calibration and servicing of laboratory equipment
  • Leading tours of the laboratories for customers and other visitors
Essential Requirements
  • Vocational experience or higher education in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to accurately follow a specified test method / process
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Strong organisation and time management; must be able to manage several tasks at varying stages of completion
  • Thorough, inquisitive, with a keen eye for detail
  • Good communication skills
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
  • A team player; being willing to help with other tasks when necessary
