Product Development Manager (Dickies)

Job Overview

The Product Development Manager is responsible for the development of Dickies and Timberland Pro Workwear product lines in line with the overall Brand strategy, meeting both Brands and Developments KPI’s, from merchandising brief until salesmen samples & size sets according to the GTM calendar deadlines. In specific: On time delivery of salesmen samples in the right look, for the right price, following the right process.

Primary Accountabilities

Manage the Development Strategy for the assigned product lines
  • Leading the range development process you will strive to consistently deliver commercial and profitable ranges that maximise sales, minimise markdown and achieve profit targets
  • Set a seasonal strategy for the developments in line with the sourcing strategy set by Supply Chain.
  • Keep a broad overview for all categories
  • Propose sourcing allocation of styles in line with supplier strategy.
  • Evaluate suppliers and their performance towards KPI’s, quality and on time delivery
  • Evaluate the previous season for workload, fabrics, successes, areas to improve and propose new ways of working
  • Analyze the previous season on numbers and figures (volumes, margins, cost) and propose actions
  • Evaluate the calendar performance and propose optimisation
Drive Product Development
  • Appraise prototypes & samples and make sure it’s in line with the target and brief
  • Attend all strategy and line plan meetings
  • Improve the quality of the products beyond standards
  • Liaise with the Design and Garment Tech team partner on fit developments and highlight specific instructions
  • Follow the development calendar deadlines, and anticipate actions if needed
  • Ensure on time delivery of proto’s and salesmen samples
  • Receive Briefs, highlight potential issues and drive completion and maintenance of development packs
  • Processing technical data in a product data system – when applicable
  • Communicate effectively by email/phone with suppliers
  • Travel to suppliers to explain and improve the styles on site and negotiate directly face to face on cost/leadtimes/minimums
  • Negotiate, analyse and optimize the prices, minimums and leadtimes in depth
  • Appraise local trim developments
  • Liaise with trim development team on centrally sourced trims
  • Drive design to cost target and deliver alternatives in case target cannot be reached.
  • Set priorities to manage the workload
  • Keep overviews for effective follow up, tracking and for clear communication
  • Appraise re-sourcing when needed
  • Assist Quality Integrity team in production problems when needed

  • Manage and coach the reports under responsibility (if any)

Key relationship optimisation
  • Create, drive and sustain highly effective and influential key relationships with internal and external partners that will deliver the business objectives in your area
  • Manage the Design team to ensure the developments are in line with the brief
  • Work closely with Sourcing and Contractors to ensure the product execution delivers in line with the brief and to achieve required product costs
  • Work closely with Merchandising to ensure the right look of the product
Relevant Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in a similar role
  • 1_ years of managing people
  • English 
  • Any other European language an added bonus

  • Project management skills with an ability to see things through to completion in a challenging environment.
