Junior Designer

Job Overview

The Junior Designer, reporting to the Designer, supports the creation of the workwear collection for all workwear brands, ensuring alignment within seasonal creative direction.

Primary Accountabilities

Design Product category
  • Research/ propose design ideas, fabrics, finish, fit, trims and seasonal colour story for relevant product category. Translate concepts into rough sketches
  • Sketch level: add detail, colours and specific styling ideas. Propose fabric and finish per style level
  • Fabric developments: finalise concepts using input garments to describe looks
  • Finish concepts: propose finish ideas using images or competitor’s samples or fabric swatches
  • Choose supplier colours, brief with large swatches or industry standard palette ID (eg. Pantone)
  • Approve final fabrics
  • Trims: propose trim concepts per style, support development within GTM calendar deadlines
  • Support fittings of prototypes in-house and on-site. Describe desired look
  • clearly and precise to development in order to ensure alignment throughout development process.
  • Conduct consumer market research to identify trends appropriate to the Brand. Keep updated with general market trends, changing consumer behaviour and new product opportunities.
  • Propose innovation (style/fabric/finish/detail/colour) that is in line with strategic creative direction
  • Collaborate closely with the merchandising team to ensure correct brand handwriting and detailing throughout design process
  • Create an initial tech pack and pass over to PD to manage and amend through the development process
  • Maintenance of label guides and standards (working with Marketing) for all Workwear brands, to ensure they are regularly reviewed, updated and sent to suppliers.
Creative Design process
  • Work with the Designer to support the execution of design process from initial briefing (design/trend/colour) sketch and prototype review to final sign off.
  • Assure that all design activities are within Go To Market calendar deadlines and are In line within signed off creative direction
  • Assure proper communication with development throughout the entire process
  • Support efficient ways of working and help to solve design construction/fabric/
  • fit/quality issues in collaboration with development
  • Support completion of seasonal design concepts, proposals of fabric selections, colour cards and design briefings as well as fitting of prototypes
  • Support execution of design boards as well as power point presentations
Communication, presentations and administration
  • Create and maintain all design records, including technical data sheets and
  • fabric/finish/trim ideas
  • Daily communication with internal department on line related issues, solutions
  • and decisions
  • Work closely with Designer to ensure alignment and smooth ways of working within calendar deadlines
  • Work closely with Tech team to ensure products are fit for purpose 
Relevant Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required for the individual to be successful in this position.
  • Design degree.
  • Minimum 1 years experience in Industry preferably in European workwear market/apparel in a comparable design position. Preferably experience with more than one brand/distribution levels.
  • Technical knowledge: good garment construction knowledge required in order to support the fit sessions. Good sense for trends and correct level of understanding of consumer/cost perception.
  • Brand management: Respects the power of a Brand. Feels responsibility to the brand: protects, nurtures and builds it. Gives brand management priority and incorporates it into all business activities.
  • Fluent English (verbal/written), additional European language an advantage.
