Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Designer who will be responsible for overseeing the full Dickies life collection within our European product portfolio. Your role will ultimately focus on developing commercial, distinctive and fit for purpose ranges each season, identifying new and exciting trends for the customer, whilst working closely with the relevant buyers. As an experienced Designer, you will also have managerial responsibility and be expected to develop and support your team fully.

Key Directives

  • Creating impactful presentations that reflect the extensive capability of the Dickies life business
  • Driving the importance of innovation, creativity and continue to cement relevant brand product and Dickies DNA throughout all facets of design
  • Design product lines that are commercially viable and meet the requirements of WDEU and our customers for quality, design, price, and position
  • Be a fundamental part of the product development process, from design conception through to fabric development and preparation for production
  • Customer interface – Collaborations with Account Managers and external clients

The Role

  • Present detailed line of ranges to the Buyers, once in receipt of design brief from buyer and Product Development Committee.
  • Lead and contribute to the creation of Seasonal Concept stories providing trend overview, must-haves and colour palettes that are brand appropriate
  • Create designs that support line plans, assortment strategies, price points that are consistent with current market trends and company goals.
  • Create CAD range packages and presentations for MTO opportunities for key account customers or development collabs.
  • Initiate the development of fabric and textiles including print graphics.
  • Always be comp shopping for inspiration and product opportunities, identifies the right style, quality and value consistent with our market.
  • Compiling trend reports from Consumer Research, Catwalks, blogs, editorial and social media and leading the rest of the team with this research
  • Work with wider teams to develop product from design concept to final garment approval and technical pack handover for submission to factories/supply base
  • Supporting with the management of the team, addressing any issues such as the content of design packs and advising on any technical information required working closer with the tech team.
  • Assess sampling to ensure meets aesthetics and quality accordance to spec.
  • Liaise with internal teams, factories and suppliers, to ensure artwork is well-received, understood and interpreted correctly.
  • Participate in range reviews, assessing best and slow sellers
  • Develop new sources for fabric and trims
  • Undertake factory or sourcing office visits and attend Trade and Trend shows, providing detailed feedback to the Buying teams
  • Be aware of new factories and their techniques (i.e. new washes, print or embroidery techniques)
  • To develop and acquire a commercial awareness of garment costs in order to provide design solutions with creative focus whilst still in accordance with the customer’s budget.
  • Prepare presentation boards, attend client meetings as required.

Person Specification

  • Fashion Design degree or similar qualification with 5 years industry experience in multi apparel mens/womenswear. At least 3 of these years must be in Menswear. Previous design experience creating technical performance and outerwear ranges would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from concept to delivery, collaborating with the Design team on an effective work-flow to achieve deadlines. Excellent time management is therefore crucial.
  • Strong knowledge in garment construction, textiles and manufacturing coupled with a creative flair and the ability to think outside of the box.
  • Excellent presentation and selling skills, with the ability to back up ideas shown with good market information to give the wider business confidence in what we are showing them is right
  • Have strong knowledge of the technical elements of design and be able to work closely with factories
  • Strong knowledge of core and technical fabrications, construction, and working with fabric mills closely
  • Self-motivated. A good team player and communicator, able to work with people at all levels with a “can do attitude”.
  • Confident ability to develop and manipulate graphics, prints, slogans, embellishments is essential.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, Office and Excel

Must Haves

  • Menswear Experience
  • Experience of travel to Asia and factories
  • Indepth Fabric (knit and woven) and wash knowledge
  • 5 years minimum industry experience
  • Based in MSN to support graduate designer – not WFH
